Residents of Zik Avenue in Awka, Anambra State were holed up in their homes as rival transport associations engaged in a deadly gun duel.
The reason for the gang war is still not known, but it was gathered that the rival cult groups clashed in the early hours of Saturday.
The residents around the area were said to have run for safety during the shooting spree, while the cult members shot at each other.
Confirming the incident, the state police command spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the police patrol team had intensified activity within the area and the entire Awka.
According to him, “Following the sound of gunshots at Zik Avenue, Awka, police patrol has been intensified in Awka. Preliminary information revealed that the cause of the shooting is as a result of cult-related incident/clash.
“The situation is closely monitored and further development shall be communicated.”
It is however, not yet certain, if there were casualties as a result of the clash.
