Gunmen Abduct CAN Chairman in Jos

Unknown gunmen have abducted a Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) who is also the Catholic priest in charge of St Anthony’s Parish, Jos,Plateau State, Rev James Kantoma.

Information reaching us say that the assailants abducted the cleric in his house situated in the Angware community of Jos East Local Government Area.

Fr Kantoma is also the Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the council area.

The gunmen are said to have arrived in the community on Sunday night and went straight to the house of their victim.

Residents, mostly youths who were alerted by the incident reportedly tried to stop the criminals and even gave them a hot chase into the bush.

They, however, gave up the chase after the assailants reportedly began shooting sporadically and eventually took the Reverend Father away.

Commenting on the incident, the state chairman of CAN, Polycarp Lubo, lamented the activities of criminals in the community.

According to him, “since the gunmen took the Reverend Father away, they have not heard anything either from him or the abductors up till this morning.”

Lubo, however, expressed hope that Kantoma would be safe and that the body of Christ is praying for him.
