Gunmen Attack Officials Taking Election Evidence to Tribunal, Cart Away Sensitive Materials

Kogi State Police Command has officially confirmed that the secretary of the governorship election Tribunal, Mr. David Umar Mike, fell victim to a violent attack by gunmen on Monday in Lokoja.

The assailants successfully seized sensitive petition documents related to the recently concluded gubernatorial election in the state. SP William Aya, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the state police command, provided details of the incident in Lokoja on Wednesday.

The police statement revealed that the attackers forcibly took away all the petition documents that had been filed by five political parties at gunpoint. Among the looted documents were petitions submitted by Action Alliance (AA), Action People’s Party (APP), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and Social Democratic Party (SDP). Additionally, two Record Books and a bag containing personal items belonging to Mr. David Umar Mike were taken.

The unfortunate incident occurred just before 1:20 PM on Monday, near the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) office. At the time, the victims were en route to the tribunal venue located at the state High court complex in Lokoja. The police authorities are actively investigating the attack and theft of crucial electoral documents.
