Gunmen Attack Travellers in Ekiti at Night, Kill One

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers are reported to have attacked travellers in Ekiti State on Friday night.

Reports say that the attack took place between Ewu-Ekiti and Aiyetoro-Ekiti neighbouring communities in Ilejemeje and Ido/Osi Local Government Area of the state.

ASP Sunday Abutu, spokesman for the state police command confirmed the incident to newsmen on Saturday.

He said that the driver of the Lexus 330 SUV was shot and killed while the suspected kidnappers took the other 2 occupants of the vehicle away.

Abutu added local hunters and operatives of Amotekun corps are working together to comb the forest within the area with a view to rescuing the victims and arresting the gunmen.

An eyewitness is reported to say there were 5 occupants of the vehicle and that it was attacked by suspected Fulani herdsmen.

He added that they were returning from a function when they were attacked. The driver, according to the witness was killed while the other occupants of the vehicle were abducted.

The vehicle with registration number LAGOS KRD 254 GV was left at the scene of attack beside the bush with the dead driver

The identities of the victims have not be known as the time of this report.
