Gunmen believed to be members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) have invaded Comprehensive Secondary School, Nkume in Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State.
Reports say the gunmen stormed the school premises to stop students from writing their exams.
They arrived just when the students were preparing for the English Language paper of the Junior Secondary School Examination.
Frightened teachers and students scampered to safety as the men fired gunshots sporadically into the air to disperse them.
Having dispersed everyone, the gun-wielding assailants set ablaze, some motorcycles belonging to some staff and students.
There has been no report of casualties but a viral video of the incident showed students and staff shouting and running for their lives.
On its part, the IPOB has given reasons why it declared another sit-at-home for the 14th of September, 2021.
The latest sit-at-home order is said to have been declared in remembrance of those allegedly killed in Afaraukwu, Abia State in 2017 by Nigerian soldiers who were searching for the group’s leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.
