Gunshots were reportedly heard on Thursday night at the Aso Rock Villa.
Thisday Newspaper reports that trouble started when the First Lady, Aisha Muhammadu Buhari stormed the residence of the President’s Special Assistant, Sabiu Yusuf.
The report says Yusuf had returned from Lagos where he went see his wife who just had a new baby. The First Lady requested that he goes into isolation for 14 days considering how ravaged Lagos is by covid19. Yusuf refused saying he only visited once while the President’s new Chief of Staff, Ibrahim Gambari visits his family in Lagos every weekend and has never been forced into isolation.
Aisha Buhari then stormed his residence with her Aide De Camp, Usman Shugaba and her children, Zahra, Halima and Yusuf to insist he self isolates in order not to endanger other Aso Rock occupants. A heated argument then ensued leading to her ADC firing gunshots.
Yusuf scaled the Aso Rock Villa to avoid being hit. He is reported to have spent the night at the President’s cousin’s house, Mamman Daura.
The incident was reported to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Muhammed Adamu who thereafter arrested the First Lady’s ADC for breach of security.
In a series of tweets, the First Lady appears to justify her family’s altercation with Yusuf that led to the gunshots heard at the Aso Rock Villa.
Her tweets:
“That covid19 is real and still very much around in our nation is not in doubt. Consequently, I call on all Government Agencies to enforce the Quarantine Act signed by Mr President and ensure no one is found violating this law and the NCDC guidelines especially on interstate travel without the necessary exemptions for movement of essentials.
“Anyone who does that should at the very least be made to undergo a 14-day mandatory isolation no matter what that person is. No one should be above the law and the police command will do well to remember that.
“Finally, I call on the IGP to release my assigned staff who are still in the custody of the Police in order to avoid putting their lives in danger or exposure to #COVID19 while in their custody.
