Hackers Gain Access to JAMB Intranet Site, Divert Millions

Hackers are reported to have gained access into the Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) intranet site.

Speaking on Tuesday, 13th April, JAMB Registrar, Prof Ishaq Oloyede said they altered the profiles of the ad hoc staff and diverted over N10 million which was set aside for the mentioned staff.

Oloyede added that the board discovered the fraud after careful investigation adding that one Sahabi Zubairu from Takum, Taraba State has been arrested alongside several others.

He explained that the hackers used Key Logger to gain access to the profiles. Key Logger is a software that allows access to the profile of anyone who has logged in using a public cybercafe even after the person has logged out and gone.

Prof Oloyede added that the site was not for application to become JAMB ad hoc staff, but for JAMB ad hoc staff to supply their account details and names for payment of their allowances.

Speaking further, he said that Zubairu deleted the names of the original ad hoc staff and their telephone numbers and substituted them with his.

Those affected include code numbers 313 and 312 among others. He added that at least, 10 scammers paraded by JAMB before journalists on Tuesday, admitted to the crime saying they were lured into the illicit business by Zubairu.
