The general overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Enoch Adeboye has deleted the prayer post he made for Israel following its war with Hamas in Palestine.
This comes after a barrage of backlash from members of the public.
In a video message posted his X account on Wednesday, the clergyman prayed for the peace of Israel and the brethren.
He predicted that the war would end very soon, and sooner than expected because of the prayers and the belief that God answers prayers.
On October 7, Hamas, a political and militant movement currently governing the Gaza strip of the Palestinian territory, infiltrated Israel and unleashed an unprecedented attack that resulted in the death of over 150 Israelis.
In a goodwill message titled: “Special message to the nation of Israel”, Adeboye said all the members of the RCCG are praying for Israel to have “absolute victory” in the ongoing conflict.
“The almighty God, the only one of Israel, will give you absolute victory and give you permanent peace from now on in the mighty name of Jesus,” Adeboye had prayed in a video clip shared on the church’s page on X.
“It is going to be well with you. We pray that this war would be the one that would be end of all wars.”
However, the message did not sit well with netizens, who said the conflict between Israel and Hamas has nothing to do with religion but crisis over ownership of land.
Others said the general overseer may not understand the plight of the Palestinians in the ongoing war, while some accused him of neutrality during political and security tensions in Nigeria.
Following the backlash, a quick check from this publication shows that the post which had over four million views and thousands likes and comments has been brought down.
