Abike Dabiri-Erewa , the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) chairman, has given an update on the evacuation of Nigerians trapped in war-torn Sudan.
According to her, Nigerian students have commenced queueing up to board buses for evacuation out of the country.
Dabiri-Erewa disclosed this in a post via her verified Twitter handle on Wednesday.
The development is coming amidst fears for nationals, especially students, trapped by the war in Sudan.
wrote, “As our students in Sudan queued up orderly to board their buses to Egypt enroute to Nigeria, supervised by Nigerian mission officials in Sudan. Let’s remember them in our prayers as they journey home. War is a terrible thing!!”
The Federal Government said it would today commence the evacuation of about 5,500 Nigerians, including students, stranded in Khartoum and other cities in Sudan.
Nigerian government announced that it had released N150 million for hiring 40 buses to convey its citizens from Sudan to Cairo in Egypt.
