There was a deadly clash today, Sunday, July 24 in Ibadan following a misunderstanding between the Hausa and Yoruba residents in Ibadan, the Oyo State Capital.

A lottery kiosk operator, popularly known as Baba Ijebu, Mufutau Sanni,is reported to have been killed in the mayhem following injuries sustained while trying to separate an Hausa man and his Yoruba counterpart on MKO Abiola Way.

Remi Abimbola, a newspaper vendor, who witnessed the imbroglio, told Tribune that trouble started when an argument ensued between an Hausa trader and his customer, a development which caused Sanni to intervene.

Sanni’s intervention, however, did not go down well with Hausa onlookers who are majorly commercial motorcycle operators. They then descended on the Yoruba man, beating him mercilessly.

The attack on Sanni, according to Abimbola, was gruesome to the extent that he had to be rushed to a nearby hospital where an unconfirmed report said he died.

The Nigerian Police and Amotekun operatives have however, arrived the scene and restored calm and normalcy.
