It was indeed horror as not less than 30 people are reported killed in fresh Boko Haram attack on Governor Babagana Zulum’s convoy.
In a report monitored on AFP, more bodies were recovered today at various locations around the scene of attack.
They include 12 policemen, 5 soldiers, 4 members of a government sponsored militia and 9 civilians.
Security sources also revealed that in addition to the injured, “the tally increased to 30 as many bodies were picked in the surrounding area after the attack.
A security personnel who spoke on condition of anonymity told AFP that 8 policemen, 3 soldiers and 4 members of the government-backed local militia were killed in the ambush on Governor Zulum’s convoy near Baga town on the shores of Lake Chad.
The jihadist fighters unleashed the terror as the convoy drove through a village close to the headquarters of the Multinational Joint Task Force.
The governor was said to be on his way to carry out an assessment tour of Baga in preparation for the return of thousands of natives displaced from the town by the terrorists in 2014
The weapons used in the attack were identified as machine guns and rocket propelled grenades.
The anonymous source said that “the governor escaped unhurt but 15 security men but 15 security men on the convoy were killed in a fierce battle with the terrorists.“
The same sect had in July unleashed a similar attack on the governor between Monguno and Baga in July this year as he was also said to be visiting IDP camps in Borno.
Baga and Moruno axis of the state have consistently be attacked since Boko Haram began its jihadist campaign.
