Housemaid Strangled Lucky Igbinedion’s Mother, Disappeared with Jewellery

The housemaid contracted to take care of Lucky Igbinedion’s mother is reported to have strangled her and disappeared with jewellery worth millions of Naira.

The Igbinedion household has since been thrown into mourning following the way Maria Oredola Igbinedion, mother to the 2-time governor was gruesomely murdered.

85-year-old Madam Maria hailed from Usen in Egor Local Government Area of Edo State and was killed at her home in Ugbor, Benin City.

According to a report by TheWill, the octogenarian did not die of old age neither was she suffering from any ailment.

She died in the hands of the trusted maid contracted by her children to live with her and attend to her needs.

The report said that after strangling her, the housemaid ransacked her home for jewellery and cash and disappeared.

Madam Igbinedion had remained confined to a wheelchair since her 80th birthday and was only managing to stay alive.

The newspaper reports that efforts are being made to trace and arrest the killer who is said to be from Cross River State.

Reports also say that security forces have been drafted to fish her out while her children have vowed to stop at nothing to track her down even if it means rounding up members of her family in her village.

Madam Maria Oredola Igbinedion was the first wife of the Esama of Benin and owner of Igbinedion University and the defunct Okada Airline.

She is survived by the former governor, Bright Igbinedion, Patience, Philomena and grandchildren.

Lucky Nosakhare Igbinedion (born 13 May 1957) was the governor of Edo State in Nigeria from 29 May 1999 to 29 May 2007. He is a member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
