The former Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa has alleged that the Commissioner of Police invaded his houses in Ikeja GRA as well as Agege.

He made the claims during a rally held at his Joel Ogunnaike GRA residence in Ikeja, where supporters gathered to welcome him home from vacation.

Speaking to the crowd, Obasa said he was his removal does not hurt him as he has been a legislator for over 20 years and the Speaker of the Assembly for over 10 years. He however insisted that his removal should have followed due process.

“I am not afraid of removal, but it must be done within the ambit of the law,” he said.

He also denied allegations of corruption, including claims that he spent ₦16 billion on constructing a gate for the Assembly complex, describing the figure as outrageous.

“It’s possible to construct a gate, an ordinary gate, with ₦16bn? When it’s not Jericho wall,” Obasa quipped, eliciting laughter from his supporters.

The former Speaker accused the Lagos State Commissioner of Police of colluding with lawmakers to facilitate his impeachment.

“The Commissioner of Police led security agents to invade the Assembly ahead of my removal,” he alleged.

He further claimed that more than 200 policemen stormed his Agege and Ikeja residences during the impeachment, locking his family indoors.

Despite his removal, Obasa was met with a show of solidarity from loyalists who turned up in large numbers at his residence.

Obasa, who served as Speaker since 2015, was impeached over alleged gross misconduct and abuse of office. Lawmakers accused him of financial misappropriation, including spending a purported ₦16 billion on a gate project.
