Hundreds of residents of Gobir in Sokoto State have stormed nearby forests to confront bandits who have been causing havoc in their community, k!lling and abducting residents.

The residents, determined to rescue 150 abducted individuals, embarked on the mission after losing faith in the ability of security forces to protect them.

The incident follows the brutal k!lling of Alhaji Isa Muhammad Bawa, the Sarkin Gobir of Gatawa District, who was abducted, tortured, and m*rdered by bandits on August 21, 2024. The bandits allegedly struck again, kidnapping over 150 mourners in Gobir town just days later.

Despite denials from the Nigerian police regarding the mass abductions, viral videos show the determined residents marching into the forests, chanting war songs and declaring, “It’s a fight to finish! It’s either us or them, no going back.”

They earlier stormed the Gobir police station to protest the abduction and m*rder of the monarch.
