Hushpuppi Arrested in Dubai, Duped Nearly 2 Million Victims

Internet fraudster and celebrity, Raymond Olorunwa Abbas popularly known as Hushpuppi has been arrested in Dubai.  He was picked up alongside his friend Olalekan Jacob Ponle also known as Woodberry.

They were nabbed for an alleged $35 million fraud. Dubai Police is reported to have worked with the collaboration of the Federal Bureau of Investigation FBI and the Interpol.

A Twitter video footage of the two friends showed them being rounded up in Hushpuppi’s Dubai partial home. The Dubai media office adds that besides the 2 friends, 10 others were also picked up in an operation code-named Fox Hunt 2.

Reports also say the notorious internet fraudsters were nabbed 2 weeks ago following months of close monitoring and investigations with regard to the sum of $35 million they collected to purchase COVID19 ventilators.

Incriminating evidences including documents with well crafted plans of more fraud worth Dh1.6 billion or nearly N169 billion was discovered in the raid. The sum was confirmed in the video footage of the arrest.

Hushpuppi is reported to sit atop a high-wired international internet fraud network that specialises in fraud within and outside the UAE. The crimes include money-laundering, hacking, impersonation, cyber-fraud, scamming of unsuspecting individuals, and financial crimes.

Speaking on the raid of the gang, the Dubai Police Chief said that “the arrest of Hushpuppi, Woodberry and 10 gang members involved in money laundry and cyber fraud activities is another achievement added to the proud record of the Dubai Police in ensuring the emirate’s security and safety.”
