I Called to Wish Him Safe Journey – Ahmed Gulak’s Son

The son of late Ahmed Gulak, Muhammed said he called his dad to wish him safe journey before he was killed.

Speaking to BBC Pidgin on Monday, Mohammed Gulak said that, “On Saturday, I called him at exactly 8:00pm to wish him safe journey back home the following day. He was happy and told me, ‘God bless you my son.’

“On Sunday morning, I was in my room waiting for his driver to come so we can go to the airport to bring home. It was our father’s personal assistant that first called via telephone to ask us if we have heard what happened.

“When we said ‘no,’ he ended the call,” Muhammed said. “Maybe he did not want to break the news to us. A few minutes later, our eldest brother came to the house crying, and told us the news of our father’s death.

“The first thing I did was to call his phone, but it did not go through. Afterward, everybody in the house began to cry.

Ahmed Ali Gulak was a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), member of the committee on constitution review and one-time political adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan.

He was in Owerri on a national assignment and on his way to Sam Mbakwe Airport, Imo State on Sunday morning when he was killed by armed men.

President Muhammadu Buhari had vowed to “deploy all resources at our disposal to ensure that such callous and criminal elements are brought to justice.”

Quoting the President, his Personal Assistant on New Media, Bashir Ahmad@BashirAhmaad said, “Let me warn that nobody or group of people who engages in such despicable acts should expect to go free. We’ll deploy all resources at our disposal to ensure that such callous and criminal elements are brought to justice”, President @MBuhari on the heinous murder of AhmedGulak.“

Soon after, based on information provided by the cab driver conveying him to the airport, the killers were rounded up by security agencies and immediately neutralised.

His death has attracted wide condemnation form across the country including former President Goodluck Jonathan, Arewa Youth Council, and President of Ohaneze Ndigbo, Chief George Obiozo.

While condemning the murder, the Imo State governing who confirmed that his killing was politically motivated.
