Kukah, Obasanjo, Obi
Former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo has shared a banter he threw at Bishop Matthew Kukah where he told the cleric that he will enter the Kingdom of God before him.
Obasanjo made the remark during a public event, a video of which was aired on Channels TV.
In his speech, the former president acknowledged his long-standing relationship with Bishop Kukah, a respected Catholic cleric and social activist. He revealed that their conversations often revolve around faith, leadership, and national issues.
Obasanjo recounted how Bishop Kukah always reminds him of his influence in his journey to becoming a bishop.
“Bishop Kukah and I have gone a long way. But I keep telling him that I will get to the Kingdom of God before him. And he keeps telling me that he became a bishop because of me—so that I can get to the Kingdom of God,” Obasanjo said, drawing laughter from the audience.
The event where Obasanjo spoke also featured discussions on governance and democracy in Africa. The former president had earlier shared his views on the state of democracy, arguing that it has failed in Africa because it does not reflect the values and traditions of the people.
He emphasized the need for governance systems that prioritize the well-being of all citizens rather than benefiting only a few.
