A video has emerged of Nyesom Ezenwo Wike vowing before the general elections that he can never leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Contrary to an unwritten rule on rotational presidency when Nigerians believed that both the PDP and the APC would zone the presidency to the South, all the PDP presidential aspirants lost the ticket to a Northerner, Atiku Abubakar.
Miffed by the development, Wike along with his 4 fellow governors and political allies all of whom make up the G-5, vowed to ensure that the presidency did not return to the north irrespective of political party.
It is believed that they were all instrumental to the victory of Bola Tinubu across all the 5 states where they were governors.
Wike has not defected to the APC but speculations are rife that his defection is imminent. This is moreso as he has been nominated as a minister in the Tinubu administration.
Before the elections however, the former governor, who described the insinuations that he will defect to the APC as speculative, maintained that he remained an unrepentant member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Wike stated this at the 114th quarterly general meeting of the Rivers State Council of Traditional Rulers in Port Harcourt, the state capital on Monday.
He said on that day, “I am not a member of the APC and I will not be. But, they have made me to recognize that they are the heroes of this country.
“The governors came out to say look, for the unity of this country, presidency should go to the south.
“The governors of the APC said the way the country is, they want the unity of this country and therefore, the presidency should go to the south.
Speaking to BBC at that time, the former governor described the APC as a party suffering from cancer and one that has ruined Nigeria in its 8 years in power.
He stated that the PDP is suffering from malaria and he is better off treating malaria than cancer.
