The Revolution Now activist and presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore on Monday, claimed that he saved the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi twice from moves to end his political career.
Sowore is in Lagos today to attend the memorial lecture held in honour of the late human rights lawyer and activist, Chief Gani Fawehinmi.
He said that forces were on the verge of stopping Obi from becoming the Labour Party presidential flag bearer but he came through for the former Governor of Anambra State.
According to him, there were agitations that Obi should not be presented as the party’s candidate for the 2023 ticket.
Sowore stated that he alongside Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and activist, Femi Falana, rose to the occasion by taking legal steps to defend him.
Sowore said that they obtained a judgment from the Court of Appeal, and handed it over to Falana to enable him defend the Labour Party, and by extension, Peter Obi’s candidacy.
“Yes! I’m just telling you that we’re in the business of saving people,” Sowore boasted.
“I Saved Peter Obi When Obasanjo Was Impeaching Everybody Impeachable.”
Sowore added that there were moves to impeach Obi when he was a sitting Governor in Anambra State but his news platform also saved him.
According to him, Falana will on a daily basis call him to beg that they should not allow injustice to prevail over Obi.
“I don’t know Peter Obi, but we should not allow this injustice to pass, nobody should be impeached,” Sowore quoted Falana as saying at that time.
He added: “Obasanjo was impeaching everybody impeachable at that time in Nigeria. That was how Obi was able to complete two tenures. So when we speak, we know what we’re saying.”
“We are saying that we have been standing with the Nigerian people but we don’t have any sense of entitlement.”
The claims by Omoyele Sowore, as expected, has attracted public reactions:

@kayzone2260: “Obi doesn’t need to respond to every attention-craving verbosity from recklessly uncouth individuals. Was Sowore the court of competent jurisdiction that saved Obi’s electoral mandate when it was stolen? Did he contribute money to Obi to pay his lawyers? What’s this nonsense pls?”
