Seyi Makinde, Governor of Oyo State, on Friday said he would not accept the chairmanship of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum.
Makinde stated this when he commissioned the newly constructed Nwaobasi Estate Road and the Osaa Okea–Umuakatawom Road in Aba, Abia State.
The Oyo State Governor noted that the claim in some quarters that he had been appointed as the chairman of the forum is a lie.
Makinde said if they give him the position, he will reject it because there must be order.
According to him, if the chairman of the forum, the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal resigns, the deputy chairman of the forum, Okezie Ikpeazu is expected to take over.
The Oyo State Governor further stated that the south is not fighting for the office of the governor’s forum.
He wondered how PDP will restructure Nigeria as promised when it has not restructured the party.
Makinde said, “There are foundational issues. If you read the proceedings of the constitutional conferences that led to independence, you will know that there were issues. And since 1960, we have not been able to get things right.
“They said that military interregnum and their command structure affected us, but we have been practising democracy for 23 years now and we have not been able to take a path that can lead to sustainable development. This is what we are saying.”
Makinde commended Abia State Governor, Ikpeazu for improving the road infrastructure to boost commercial activities in the city and called on the federal government to give more powers to the states to fix federal roads in their areas.
