Igbo leaders under aegis of Ohaneze Ndigbo alongside their Yoruba counterparts have met the Federal Government of Nigeria to discuss the various issues plaguing the nation.
The Nigerian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Sofola met with the eminent leaders at the Nigerian High Commission office in London.
Reports say the meeting centred around the efforts of the Federal Government of Nigeria in tackling internal security challenges in the country.
The Yoruba and Igbo leaders, during the meeting, stressed their belief in the unity of Nigeria and the need to preserve it as a corporate entity.
The igbo leaders called for the enthronement of equity, justice and fairness in the country, a situation that would accord them their rightful place in the Nigeria project.
Yorubas on their part, stressed the need for unity adding that they would continue to remain in Nigeria.
They also demanded that power should evolve to the various components of the federation through restructuring and true federalism.
Both groups reiterated the need for true federalism as canvassed by Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a position he remained passionate about until his death.
Chief Adebayo Oladimeji, a Chartered Biologist and Chairman of Nigerian Elders in the UK led the Yorubas to the meeting while the Ohaneze Ndigbo were led by the President of the group in the UK, Dr Nnanna Igwe, a medical practitioner.
The two groups reiterated the need for dialogue and continuous engagement on matters of concern to Nigerians especially those in the UK.
