Some schools in the Igbo dominated states of Nigeria have ditched the regular uniforms for the traditional Igbo attire, the ‘Isi Agu.’
Photos of the first day of resumption were posted by the principal of Bubendorff Memorial Grammar School, Adazi-Nnukwu in Anambra State.
The Principal, Theo Ekwem who is also a Catholic Reverend Father appears elated at the decision to take on the local materials.
He obviously has the backing of the Commissioner for Basic Education, Prof Kate Omenugha whom he commended for her “policies.”
According to Rev Ekwem, “Frankly speaking, I don’t know if our beloved State would find another person in the mould of Prof. Kate Omenugha as the Commissioner for Basic Education in Anambra State.
“This woman has introduced laudable, far-reaching and commendable policies that would stand the test of time.”
The choice of fabric and the initiative have also been commended by members of the public:
Chinedu Nwabunie “More strength Fr Theo Ekwem“
Anorue VictoriaI “love the Isiagu uniform… daalu Padre you are really doing well”
Ekwu Munachi “We can only pray for God’s continued grace and help to Keep the light shining”
oseph Chinonso Onyekwelu “If not because of your vocation I strongly believe that one political party would have adopt as governorship candidate for next election …. Keep the Good work up”
Nnaemeka Onyebueke “Swag akaria! This is simply beautiful and classy …”
