Yoruba Activist, Sunday Igboho has suspended the Yoruba Nation rally scheduled for Saturday, the 3rd of July in Lagos.

This comes after unknown gunmen dressed in army and DSS uniforms stormed his residence in the very early hours of Thursday, 1st of June.

The men killed two people and abducted Igboho’s wife.

The Yoruba Nation agitator had held peaceful rallies in different parts of the South-West, while the rally for Lagos was scheduled for Saturday.

However, Igboho while speaking with BBC News Pidgin, disclosed that the rally in Lagos has been suspended.

He said the men came in “soldier and DSS” uniforms and stormed his house at Soka, Ibadan while he was asleep with his family and aides.

According to him, “I just hear stray bullet in front of my house. Sunday Igboho come out ! We’re DSS, we’re soldier.

“I peeped through the window, I saw them, with uniform, DSS uniform and soldier, Nigerian army; I was surprised that what is the problem because I never kill anybody, I never fight with anybody.

“What I’m doing is to fight for my people. All the rally I’m doing is a peaceful rally.

“I fight for my family because all the Fulani bandits kill my family, rape them, Kidnap them, take ransom from them.

“Government refused to do the right thing for my family, that’s why I come out to support my family to fight for our right. So I was surprised.”

Igboho announced the suspension of the Lagos rally after the leader of the umbrella body of Yoruba self-determination groups, Ilana Omo Oodua, Banji Akintoye announced the rally will go on as scheduled.

Speaking through his media aide, Maxwell Adeleye, Akintoye said in part that, “We want to confirm again that the Pro-Yoruba Nation rally scheduled to hold on Saturday, July 3rd in Lagos will proceed as scheduled.”
