President Muhammadu Buhari has stated that he is taken aback by the clamour by the Igbos to secede when they are in charge of Nigeria’s economy.
He stated this during a town hall meeting with Igbo leaders in the course of his one-day working visit to Imo State.

The IPOB leader has remained consistent in his calls for a referendum and eventual cessation for the people of the Eastern Region, an action that eventually led to his arrest, extradition from a foreign country and detention.
In his address today titled “I want to be remembered as the president who stabilised Nigeria,” the President insisted that Igbos re very relevant in Nigeria.
He added that the people of the region own successful businesses across the country and they are in charge and indeed own the Nigerian economy.
According to President, “The fundamental thing about the Igbo people is that there is no town you will visit in Nigeria without seeing the Igbos being in charge of either infrastructure or pharmaceutical industry.
“Therefore it is unthinkable for me that any Igbo man would consider himself not to be a part of Nigeria.
“The evidence is her for everyone to see that Igbos are in charge of Nigeria’s economy,” Buhari said.
