Osinbajo came third in the primary, which saw the former minister of transportation, Rotimi Amaechi emerge second in the ruling party’s presidential primary election.

Political watchers had expected that the Vice President would take over from his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari at the end of his tenure in 2023.

Akande quotes Osinbajo as saying that if God gives him the opportunity, the change will be swift and will make a real difference.

The statement reads, “I intend to stay very actively engaged in the politics of our country, because I believe strongly that, if God gives us that opportunity, the change will be swift and we will make a real difference.

“We must continue to push. If we give up and say let’s see how it goes, we will be much further back than where we started from.”
