The Federal Government of Nigeria has suspended all inbound and outbound flights of Emirates Airlines with Immediate effect.
The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by the Airline. It said that airline passenger flights to and from Nigeria (Lagos and Abuja) are suspended from the 21st of June, 2021 until further notice.
The airline however advised passengers who already booked their flights to keep their tickets for future flights insisting that it is committed to Nigeria.
Excerpts of the announcement:
“In line with government directives, passenger flights to and from Nigeria (Lagos and Abuja) are suspended with effect from 21 June 2021 until further notice.
Customers travelling to and from Lagos and Abuja will not be accepted for travel. Customers who have been to or connected through Nigeria in the past 14 days ae not permitted to board from any other point to the UAE.
“We regret any inconvenience caused and affected customers should contact their booking agent or Emirates call centre for rebooking. Emirates remains committed to Nigeria, and we look forward to resuming Passenger services when conditions allow.
The Dubai Supreme Committee of Crisis and Disaster Management had, on Saturday, eased travel restrictions to Nigerian passengers under a new Covid19 health and safety protocol.
The agency removed the rapid antigen test and said that passengers from Nigeria would only be required to possess a negative PCR test.
“We look forward to facilitating travel from these countries and supporting various travellers’ categories.”
“We will resume carrying passengers from South Africa, Nigeria and India in accordance with these protocols from 23rd June,” the Emirates Airlines confirmed.
Nigerian and UAE officials have been having discussions about issues relating to the Covid19 protocol.
