The video footage of 3 Indonesian Immigration Officials brutally assaulting a Nigerian Diplomat has emerged.

The incident is said to have happened on Saturday, the 7th of August in front of the residence of the Nigerian diplomat.

The officials were seen strangling him and pinning him down to a car seat as screamed that, “I can’t breath” until he appeared to have passed out.

It is uncertain if indeed he passed out and was resuscitated as the video lasted about 1 minute, 15 seconds.

Speaking on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, the Foreign Affairs Minister, Geoffrey Onyeama said that “The unfortunate incident is against international law and the Vienna Conventions governing Diplomatic and Consular Relations between states.

Reports say that the Nigerian Government has complained strongly to the Government of Indonesia and the Ambassador of Indonesia to Nigeria was summoned by the Honourable Minister of Foreign Affairs

“The (Indonesian) Ambassador explained what he understood happened and apologised unreservedly on behalf of the Government of Indonesia. The Nigerian Government has sent an official protest to the Government of Indonesia,” Onyeama said.

He added that “The Ambassador of Nigeria to Indonesia has confirmed that the Immigration official involved had since come to the Nigerian Embassy to apologise to the Ambassador and the diplomat concerned.”
