Elder statesman and leader of the Socio-Cultural Afenifere Group, Pa Ayo Adebanjo has alleged that the INEC Chairman replicated what happened in the 1993 election in Nigerians.
The conduct of the 2023 election that produced Bola Ahmed Tinubu as President continues to be contested at the Election Petition tribunal.
The petitioners argue that the election was conducted with INEC failing to follow its own laid down procedure.
They argue that the expected processes of the election were sabotaged by the electoral commission in a bid to silence the opposition parties.
In an interview with Arise News, Pa Adebanjo noted that the struggle for free and fair elections will continue until there is a significant change in the electoral system.
In his words, ”With Afenifere leading the NADECo then, Abiola wasn’t our fan. He didn’t belong to our party but because he won the election free and fair, we supported him but Babagibda played us.
“What IBB did to Nigerians in 1993 is what INEC Chairman has done to us in 2023. That is why I said we have not learned the lessons. Let the Voters vote count and if it doesn’t count, you will be seeing this struggle. The fight continues until we allow votes to count in our elections.”
