Injecting disinfectants into the body to kill covid-19 is being considered by the President of the United States of America.
The President also suggests that scientists should consider heating the body with ultraviolet light for the same purpose.
For him, this should clean the body and the lungs . In Trump’s words, “I see the disinfectant where it knocks it out in a minute, one minute. Is there anyway we can do something like that , by injection inside or almost a cleaning ? Because you see, it gets in the lungs, and it does a tremendous number in the lungs, it’d be interesting to check that.”
Unfortunately, his suggestion made his coronavirus response co-ordinator, Deborah Birx who was present at the briefing uncomfortable. Other experts are equally skeptical about exploring the option. They warn that it is dangerous and should not be considered.
On its part, British makers of Lysol and Dettol, Reckitt Benckiser yesterday evening issued a warning that the products should not be injected into the body.
Statement by Reckit Benckiser on injecting disinfectant into the body:
“As a global leader in health and hygiene products, we must be clear that under no circumstance should our disinfectant products be administered into the human body (through injection, ingestion or any other route).
“As with all products, our disinfectant and hygiene products should only be used as intended and in line with the usage guidelines.
“Please read the label and safety information.”
In another development, UK Government Chief Medical Officer, Jenny Harries cautioned that:
“Clearly, we should not support that from a medical professional perspective. It is really important that people use appropriate treatments that are evidence based and tested.
“We have very good programmes that have been taken up rapidly, coordinated in this county, testing various different alternative treatments. Harris added.
“Those trials will report reasonably early, but certainly nobody should be injecting anything, and we should be using evidenced based and properly trialled treatments that we know would be safe.”
US medical doctors on their part, have also cautioned against the internal administration of disinfectants in any form.
Meanwhile, in an interview with Chanel 4 News, President Trump, said he has been misquoted as usual considering that he was not proposing the use of disinfectants as cure for COVID19.
According to him, “I was only asking a question sarcastically to reporters like you just to see what would happen.”
