The Federal Government has vowed to reciprocate in kind any country that imposes international flight ban on airlines from Nigeria.
Captain Musa Nuhu, Director General of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) said this on behalf of the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika during the briefing of the Presidential Task Force (PTF) on covid19 on Thursday.
He said that the Federal Government would not hesitate to retaliate in kind, any country that imposes a ban on the nation’s international flights.
According to him, “the principle of reciprocity would be applied. The conditions you give Nigerians who travel to your country, we will apply the same thing.
He added that “if you ban us from coming to your country, the same will apply the other way. We just hope for a level-playing field on the issue of reciprocity.”
Captain Musa Nuhu also gave insights into his discussions with operators of foreign airlines as well as the level of Nigeria’s preparedness to resume international flights.
Speaking on the development, he said that “I am glad that so far today, we’ve gotten a positive response from quite a few number of international airlines in meeting our requirements.
“We have almost finished discussing with the health authorities on the protocols for people coming in, on the checks for #COVID19 and people going out and the information will be given to airlines.”
Earlier in the week, the PTF announced that international flights would resume on the 29th of August starting with Lagos and Abuja..
He added that “the protocols, procedures and processes will be announced in due course.”
