Hadi Sirika, Nigeria’s Aviation Minister has announced that international flights may resume earlier than anticipated.
According to him, the Nigeria Airspace Management Authority issued a notice to airmen to that effect. Sirika gave the update yesterday on his twitter handle while denying that international flights were billed for resumption in October.
According to him, the flights will resume despite the ban issued to Nigeria by Europe and the United Arab Emirates. He said the new and substantive date will be announced after consultations with relevant authorise like the Ministries of Foreign Affairs and Health as well as the Presidential Task Force on Covid19.
According to him:
“International Flight resumption date is not October. NAMA just issued a routine 90 day Notices to Airmen (NOTAM). In liaison with Health, Foreign Affairs & PTF COVID-19, we will announce the agreed date, regardless of the ban by Europe, UAE etc. May be earlier than October.”
International and domestic flights were suspended at the onset of the covid19 pandemic.
Nigeria was not the only country to take the measures. Many countries also shut their land borders and sea ports.
However, evacuation of citizens stranded in foreign countries have continued for many countries.
According to Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, “6,317 Nigerians have so far been evacuated from abroad.”
She gave the update at a press briefing on Tuesday ahead of the National Diaspora Day celebrations slated for the 25th of July.
