Nigeria’s celebrated Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), Abba Kyari made the headlines on Thursday after the infamous fraudster, Abbas Ramon, also known as Huspuppi mentioned him as a beneficiary of his internet fraud activities.
Hushpuppi indicted Kyari in a $1.1 million internet scam deal according a California, US court documents.
He disclosed that he bribed the super cop to effect the arrest of a wire fraud colleague who tried to double-cross him.
Ramon made the revelation after accepting a plea bargain and pleading guilty to conspiracy to engage in money laundering.
The court documents reveal that he may get up to 20 years in prison by the end of the prosecution.
Kyari has since denied receiving any bribe from Hushpuppi saying he only responded to a distress call about threat to the lives of members of Hushpuppi’s family.
According to him, when he discovered that there was no threat to life, he released the person fingered in the threat.
He added that the only time there was a transaction between him and Hushpuppi was when the latter requested to know his fashion designer. He directed him to designer to whom Huspuppi paid N300,000 to directly.

- He is a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DSP) and a member of the Inspector General of Police’s Intelligence Response Team in the Nigerian Police Force Headquarters in Abuja

- Prior to being appointed as IGP-IRT, served at Lagos State Police Command as officer in Charge of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)
- Kyari became famous after successfully apprehending popular kidnapper kingpins Evans and Wadume, amongst others
- Was admitted into Police Academy, Wudil, Kano State in 2000
- Graduated as cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and was posted to Adamawa State Police Command for the compulsory one-year attachment in Song Police Division
- He is a member of the International Association of Chief of Police (IACP)
- Later deployed as Divisional Crime Officer (DCO) in Numen, Adamawa State and served as Unit Command 14 PMF Yola
- Moved to Lagos State Police Command as 2 IC and later OIC of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS)
- Abba Kyari is married with children.
