IPOB Clashes with DSS, Deaths Reported

Conflicting number of casualties are reported as IPOB and the DSS clashed yesterday in Enugu.

IPOB Spokesperson, Emma Powerful reports that the IPOB members were holding a peaceful meeting when men of the DSS stormed the venue, shooting sporadically.

In a statement on Sunday, he said that:

“Today, the Nigerian security Personnel stormed IPOB meeting ground in Enugu and started shooting sporadically which consumed the lives of 21 members and 47 arrested for no cause or provocation.

Powerful added that the security operatives took the corpses away after the operation.

He however, cautioned that “the security in the whole world must understand that keeping quiet and following the rule of law should not be construed as weakness on the part of IPOB.”

The group’s spokesman also reminded the security agents that “it is clear to all that IPOB doesn’t indulge or carry arms or involve in any object. IPOB is a peaceful movement and we must remain so till Biafra is totally achieved.”

Spokesperson for the Enugu State DSS, Peter Afunnanya on his part reports that the command’s patrol vehicle was “attacked in Ememe, Enugu State by members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

“The service lost 2 personnel in what was clearly an unprovoked violent attack launched by #IPOB on the team.”

Afunanya added that “all measures have been put in place to ensure that their killers and everyone involved in the dastardly act are promptly apprehended and brought to justice. Consequently, a full-scale investigation will be carried out with regard to the incident.”
