Terrorists suspected to members of the dreaded Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) are reported to have kidnapped at least 15 people including members of an international NGO in Damboa Local Government Area of Borno State.

The insurgents stormed Gumsuri village in Damboa where they waylaid motorists and whisked passengers into Sambisa forest.

Alongside the staff of an International Non-Governmental Organisation are other travellers.

Reports say the captives were travelling to Adamawa on Wednesday when they ran into an ambush laid by the terrorists.

The ISWAP members were alleged to have adorned military camouflage at a checkpoint to deceive commuters.

A security source told Daily Trust that, “it is unfortunate that the insurgents continue their nefarious activities on the fringe of Sambisa forests.

We have received reports that ISWAP kidnapped at least 15 persons (passengers) near Gumsuri village while allowing 2 others to go.

“They are desperate to recruit more people into their criminal activities. They deceived people because they dressed in military attires. It is sad and shocking.”
