Judge Johnson of Old Bailey, UK, during the sentencing of Senator Ike Ekweremadu, his wife, Beatrice and Dr Obinna Obeta, explained why the organ trafficking victim is scared to return home to Nigeria.
According to him, the boy was deceived and lied to about the entire process. He is just a poor uneducated boy struggling in Lagos. He sold phone accessories, made an average of N3,500 daily and had 6 younger siblings and a sick father.
They offered to pay the the victim N3.5millon but it turns out that was also a scam. They had no intentions of paying the boy or helping him with his long term care after donating his kidney to their sick daughter.
The judge said that after the UK doctors refused to go on with the surgery, the decided to take the boy to Nigeria and do a force operation on him. They maltreated him and seized his passport refusing him his basic rights. He had no choice than to run away.
Mr Johnson added that the court, through a police officer offered him compensation twice but he refused saying he didn’t want their money and wanted nothing to do with them.
The court regretted that the Ekweremadus went all the way to pick a poor, uneducated boy from the streets of Lagos and deceived him to donate his kidney.
Knowing fully well the effects it will have on his health for the rest of his life but made no plans for the aftercare.
According to Democratic Watchman, “All they cared about was their daughter, anyone else is spare parts.
That’s how these politicians think, they only care about their family members and not the citizens who vote for them.
Instead of feeling sad for the Ekweremadus rather feel for the boy who could have died after the surgery and no one would have heard of it.
Your sympathy for Sonia is understandable but also remember, she knew everything that was going on but also did not care for the boy.“
