The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN) has announced the suspension of the strike it embarked upon 2 months ago.
The announcement was made on Wednesday while work is expected to resume on Monday, 14th June.
The information is contained in a communique issued by the union after an emergency National Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.
In a communique signed by the Deputy President, Emmanuel Abioye and the General Secretary, Isaiah Adetola, JUSUN stated that “NEC in-session discussed extensively and after putting so many issues into consideration ie the intervention of the NJC and other stakeholders, the NEC has resolved that the strike is hereby suspended.”
The leadership of JUSUN commended the efforts of the National Judicial Council in ensuring that governors obey the memorandum of agreement and the judgement on the financial autonomy of the judiciary.
It also commended the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the heads of courts for their patience and understanding throughout the period of the strike.
JUSUN members embarked on an indefinite strike from the 6th of April to protest against the denial of its constitutionally guaranteed financial autonomy which was affirmed by a Federal High Court in January 2014.
The strike action resulted in overcrowding of police detention facilities as law enforcement agencies could not arraign suspects in courts.
