5 more captives kidnapped by terrorists who attacked the Abuja-Kaduna train on March 28, 2022 have been released.

An initial batch of 1 female and 4 males were let go days after the terrorists released a disturbing video where they were torturing some of them.

Daily Trust quoted popular Kaduna-based Publisher, Tukur Mamu as saying that among those released is a medical doctor at the Usman Dan Fodio University Teaching Hospital (UDUS), Sokoto, Prof. Mustapha Umar Imam.

He listed other passengers who were released as Akibu Lawal, Abubakar Ahmed Rufai, Muktar Shuaibu and Sidi Aminu Sharif.

Mamu, who voluntary engaged in negotiating the release of the victims had backed out due to what he described as threats to his life. He disclosed that Imam was shot in captivity by the terrorists.

Mamu advised the government to quickly negotiate the release of the remaining victims in captivity due to their current condition.

He also called on the authorities to dialogue with the terrorists, insisting that there is nothing dialogue and negotiation could not achieve.

Also speaking, the victims expressed gratitude to God and thanked Tukur Mamu for the role he had played while negotiating their release.

“In a situation where military force cannot work, dialogue would certainly work,” he said.

However, it could not yet be ascertained yet if any ransom was paid before the release of the latest batch.

In total, 37 captives have regained their freedom. The number of those still in captivity now stands at 35.
