A military general, Air Vice Marshal Sikiru Smith (rtd) who was abducted in the Ajah area of Lagos has regained freedom.
Police Spokesman for Lagos State Command, Adekunle Ajisebuti told Punch that the retired General was set free in the early hours of Saturday.
“I can confirm that he has been released,” Ajisebutu said.
Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers had abducted Sikiru Smith on Monday.
Reports say that the military officer was supervising work on site in the Ajah area of Lagos State when masked gunmen invaded the place shooting sporadically.
Smith was rushed into a waiting speedboat that sped away immediately.
Punch reports that his driver, Corporal Odiji, shared an SOS note stating that the retired General engaged the kidnappers in a struggle before he was subdued.
The AVM is a cousin to former Inspector-General of Police and current Chairman of Police Service Commission, Musiliu Smith.
Sikiru Smith is the current Chairman of Double Wealth Ventures Limited, a dredging and engineering firm.
