The members of the Abia state House of Assembly have impeached the Speaker, Hon Chinedum Orji.
Orji was impeached at about 9 am Tuesday with 18 of the 24-members signing for the impeachment, while four declined.
The 4 include Ginger Onwusibe, Munachim Alozie, Solomon Akpulonu, and Kelechi Onuzuruike.
Although details of the Speaker’s impeachment are still sketchy but reports say that Orji’s removal followed a motion moved by Hon. Chukwudi Apugo (Umuahia East), and seconded by Hon. Okey Igwe (PDP, Umunneochi).
Chukwudi Apugo of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who represents Umuahia-East and was seconded by Okey Igwe of the PDP, representing Umunneochi constituency.
Orji, representing Umuahia Central State Constituency, lost his bid to represent the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal constituency in the February 25 National Assembly election.
The son of the former Governor Theodore Orji lost to the Labour Party candidate, Obi Aguocha.
Operatives of the Nigerian Police Force have taken over the entrance gate of the Abia State House of Assembly.
