Akwa Ibom State has passed the anti-open grazing bill into law.

The new law follows that of Lagos and Enugu States and is a fall-out of the resolution of Southern governors to protect their forests as wells the lives of their citizens from rampaging killer herdsmen.

During the passage of the Lagos Anti-Open Grazing Bill into the law, The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudasiru Obasa said that it is meant to create an atmosphere that encourages peaceful coexistence among residents.

He added that it was important to address the issue of cattle rearing especially with regards to security and other human desires.

The Akwa Ibom bill has however, allowed the establishment of ranches and livestock administration.

The Akwa Ibom State bill is said to have been passed into law on Tuesday after it was read the third time on the floor of he house during plenary, which was presided over by the Speaker, Aniekan Bassey.

Chairman, House Committee on Agriculture and Assembly member representing Ikono State Constituency, Asuquo Udo, presented the report of Joint House Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources, Lands and Housing to the House.

The new bill adopted the recommendations of the Committee.

On his part, the leader of the Akwa Ibom House and member representing Oruk Anam consituency, Udo Akpan, moved a motion for the anti-open grazing bill to be read and passed, seconded by the member repressing Nsit Ubiam constituency, Otobong Bob.

Speaker Aniekan Bassey, thereafter, directed the Clerk of the House, Mrs Mandu Umoren to transmit the bill to the governor for accent.
