Another storey building located in the high brow Lekki area of Lagos has collapsed.
This comes barely 24 hours after a 21-storey building collapsed in Ikoyi, the most affluent area of the state.
It is not certain the number of casualties involved in the latest accident as at the time of this report.
The Gerald Road edifice went down like a pack of cards within seconds at about 2:45pm on Monday resulting in the death of at least 10 people.
Many are still trapped under the rubbles while those who survived and were rescued, have been taken to hospitals for treatment.
The accident led to the arrest of the owner of the structure by the Lagos State Government.
His arrest is said to be premised on him taking the building beyond the approved 15 floors to 21, thereby endangering lives.
In an address to newsmen on Tuesday, the General Manager, Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Gbolahan Oki confirmed the arrest and possible prosecution.
According to Oki, “The materials used for the reinforcement are so terrible. He got approval for 15 floors but he built 21. He has been arrested.”
The State Governor on his part, this afternoon, also ordered the suspension of Gbolahan Oki.
Lekki is a naturally formed peninsula, adjoining to its west Victoria Island and Ikoyi districts of Lagos, with the Atlantic Ocean to its south, Lagos Lagoon to the north, and Lekki Lagoon to its east.
