The United Kingdom Prime Minister, Boris Johnson has has stepped down from office.
He announced his resignation as Conservative Leader on Thursday at Downing Street UK, saying that no one was indispensable.
Johnson noted that he feels sad to be quitting the “best job in the world.”
His resignation comes after more than 50 members of his own government resigned in the past 48 hours, saying they no longer have faith in his leadership after a series of scandals, the latest involving an ally that accused him of improper sexual conduct.
A report gleaned from BBC says: “Boris Johnson will resign as Conservative Leader today, he will continue as prime minister until the autumn.’‘
“It is clear that there should be a new leader,” Johnson said, while urging millions of people that voted for him in 2019 to keep unleashing the potential of the UK to make it the most prosperous nation in Europe.
“No one is remotely indispensable. I want you to know how sad I am to give up the best job in the world,” he said, adding that he will continue to give his best until a new prime minister is in place.
