The President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria has unveiled the redesigned naira notes to the public.
It was unveiled at the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari a few minutes ago.
The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele warned Nigerians against holding of the old notes, saying there is no going back on the January 31st 2023 deadline to completely render the old notes useless.
The redesigned notes are in denomination of N1000, N500 and N200.
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) is the sole issuer of the legal tender money throughout the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
It controls the volume of money supplied in the economy in order to ensure monetary and price stability. The Currency Operations Department of the CBN is in charge of currency management, through the designs, procurement, distribution and supply, processing, reissue and disposal or disintegration of bank notes and coins.
