Federal Government of Nigeria has announced an increase in the price of both single-phase metre and the 3-phase electricity metre.
Effective date of implementation in the metre price is scheduled for the 15th of November, 2021.
The announcement is contained in a circular dated 11th of November 2021 and issued by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC).
The circular was addressed to managing directors of all electricity distribution companies and all metre asset providers.
The memo with reference number NERC/REG/MAP/GEN/751/2 was titled: ‘Review of the Unit Price of end-use metres under the Metre Asset Provider and National Mass Metering Regulations.’
In line with the announcement, the price of a single phase metre will go from the current N44,896.17 to N58,661.69.
The price of the 3-phase metre will go from the current sum of N82,855.19 to a revised rate of N109,684.36.
Nigerians are compelled to comply with the price increases despite the poor implementation of the Metre Asset Providers (MAPs).
The prices were initially increased from N36,991 for single phase and N67,055 for 3-phase metres to N44,896.16 for single phase and N82,855.19 for 3-phase metres.
