A former Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), renowned economist and an arch critic of poor governance, Obadia Mailafia is dead.

The 64-year-old former CBN Deputy Governor died this morning, Sunday, the 19th of September at the National Hospital, Abuja.

He hailed from Randa, the Christian-dominated Southern Kaduna and taught Economics at various institutions.

Mailafia was renowned for concerted efforts at ending the protracted killings in Southern Kaduna.

He was also an unrepentant critic of the Muhammadu Buhari administration and was once a guest of the Department of State Services (DSS) where he was made to explain some of his pronouncements about daring violence across the country
