JUST IN ! Former Minister Alabo Tonye Graham-Douglas is Dead

Former Nigerian Minister who held several cabinet positions, Chief Alabo Tonye Graham-Douglas is dead.

Reports say he died today, April 25 at the age of 82. Chief Graham-Douglas’s death was confirmed by the President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Abuja chapter, Emmanuel Ogbeche.

He was Nigeria’s Minister of Youth, Sports and Culture in 1989, and later appointed Minister of Aviation during the Ibrahim Babangida administration.

In 1999, he became the Minister of Labour and Productivity, and in 2000, Minister of Tourism in the Olusegun Obasanjo cabinet. He left office in January 2001.

Chief Alabo Tonye Graham-Douglas helped in the creation of Akuku-Toru LGA, Rivers State.


He was a pioneer founding father of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and sat as Member of Board of Trustees for many years.

Until his death, he was a revered Kalabari Chief and Paramount Head of The Orubibi Douglas Group of Houses of Abonnema.
