Emmanuel Macron, French President has tested positive for covid19.
The information was made public today, 17th December with news that he would self-isolate for the next one week.
News from the French capital said that “the President tested positive for covid19 today.”
It added that Macron got tested after showing “the onset of the first symptoms and will self-isolate for seven days. He will continue to work and carry our his activities remotely.”
BBC also reports that:
“Mr Macron “is still in charge” of running the country and will work remotely,
“EU chief Charles Michel and Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez are both self-isolating after coming into contact with Mr Macron on Monday.
“France this week imposed an overnight curfew to help deal with soaring cases there.”
Johns Hopkins University reports that there have been 2 million covid19 cases in France with at least 59,400 deaths.
The French President is now among heads of states that have contracted #COVID19.
President Donald Trump of the US and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson also suffered the disease while Angela Merkel was quickly placed in isolation after her doctor tested positive on March 22nd, 2020.
Earlier this week, France imposed restrictions when a surge in infections confirmed projections of a second wave of the pandemic in the country.
Theatres and restaurants have remained closed while an 8:00pm curfew has been put in place to curb the spread of the killer disease.
Yesterday, 16th December alone, 17,000 new cases were recorded feuling fears that Christmas travels and shopping are a risk at this time.
As with many countries around the world, France is hoping to curb the spread of the disease with a covid19 vaccine.
Prime Minister Jean Catex promised that the country would receive 1.16 million doses before January.
