The Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodinma has sacked his Commissioner for Labour and Productivity, Ford Ozumba.
The development was made known in a statement to journalists on Saturday by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba.
No reason has yet been given for the sack but many Imo residents say that it may not be unconnected with the ongoing state-wide strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) that has crippled the public power supply in Imo state, for the third day now.
The strike in the state caused a lot of controversies with the Imo state traders last Friday staging a protest in front of the Imo government house.
The NLC, National President, Ajero, had ordered a strike alleging that the Imo state government was interfering in their NLC, state election.
The union president, Joe Ajaero, alleged that the Imo State Government “sought to influence the outcome of the elections in the state,” by offering gratifications to the delegates to vote for their “chosen candidates.”
“This meddlesomeness was resisted by the delegates who refused the unholy offerings and baits to vote for their chosen candidates,” he added.
Mr. Ajaero asserted that the state government resorted to violence to disrupt the exercise because it was outraged by the delegates’ rejection of its proposals. Hence, the union had to react by going on an indefinite strike.
