The Lagos State House of Assembly has passed the anti-open grazing bill into law on Thursday, 9th September, 2021.
This is in spite of appeals and meetings with the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association (MACBAN) that they be given time to educate the herders on the ranching method of animal husbandry, particularly avoiding people’s farmlands and streaming conflicts.
The lawmakers also passed the State’s Value Added Tax (VAT) bill into law.
The Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa directed the Acting Clerk of the House, Olalekan Onafeko to transmit copies of the bills to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for assent.
The 2 bills were today, passed after a unanimous consensus by all the lawmakers when they were read for the 3rd time.
Elated by the decisions reached, Speaker Obasa hailed his colleagues for their passion for the economic growth of Lagos State.
In his words, “I thank you all for this historic exercise.”
On Wednesday, the House of Assembly members held separate sessions to deliberate on both bills while under pressure by the MACBAN for leniency and a soft landing.
