Nigeria’s Minister for Women Affairs Minister and Social Development, Dame Pauline Tallen has withdrawn from the 2023 senatorial race.
She had signified interest in representing the Plateau South Senatorial District.
Dame Pauline was among the ministers present at President Muhammadu Buhari’s valedictory on Friday.
She disclosed that she would continue to serve Nigerian Women as Minister of Women Affairs.
In a statement released on Monday the Minister noted that she took the decision after consultations and interventions from critical stakeholders.
She had earlier purchased the senatorial form of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but later stated that she has recorded notable progress as the Minister of Women Affairs.
Excerpts of her statement: “I remain resolute as I continue to relish the opportunity to serve Nigerian Women in my capacity as Minister of Women Affairs under the able leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“Consequently, I wish to inform you all that following broad-based consultations and interventions from critical stakeholders, I have decided to withdraw from running for the senatorial seat, mindful of our accomplishments and the notable progress we have recorded under my stewardship at the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs.”
